Technology for people with diabetes has rapidly evolved since the re introduction of insulin pumps into the UK in 1998. This session will aim to demystify and myth bust as to what closed loop therapy for people with type 1 diabetes is and what and how they will be used. Technology for people with type 2 diabetes will also be presented.
This session will discuss the concept and benefits of continuous glucose monitoring and will introduce you to the Freestyle Libre 2 systems and how this technology can benefit people with diabetes to manage glucose levels more effectively.
Women with diabetes, who become pregnant, have an increased risk of having a miscarriage, having a baby with congenital abnormalities and suffering a stillbirth. Diabetes preconception care has been proven to reduce these risks and improve outcomes.
This session aims to discuss the potential complications and risk reduction including the importance of glycaemic control, folic acid, and changing medications in preparation for pregnancy.
It will also discuss how practice nurses and other health care professionals have an essential role in ensuring women are aware of the importance of preconception care.
Type 2 diabetes remission is when your long term blood sugar levels remain below 48mmol/mol or 6.5% for 3 months or more, without diabetes medication. This session aims to uncover the possibility of type 2 remission and the brand-new type 2 remission resources Diabetes UK have launched to help encourage positive conversations about remission and routes to it between you and your patients.
In our short session we will be sharing how NHS Norfolk & Waveney Integrated Care Board (ICB) responded to a need to improve diabetes care in primary care in all aspects, but particularly for diabetic foot screening.
There was a recognised need to embed a holistic mindset for diabetes annual reviews and ensure that primary care teams had the skills and up to date knowledge to confidently undertake them. To drive the desired improvements, a key aspect of the solution needed to be ICB specific. This led the ICB to seek and collaborate with a highly recommended diabetes training provider to develop a bespoke training programme.
Come and hear how impactful a tailored and targeted programme can be in making a difference to quantifiable improvements and measurable outcomes; with people living with diabetes at the heart of it.
Effective diabetes care goes beyond medical management and should also encompass psychological and psychosocial aspects. This session explores a different approach to diabetes care by integrating lifestyle factors and dance as therapeutic tools. Also taking cultural factors into consideration.
Diabetes is a common cause of chronic kidney disease, including end-stage disease. However, early diagnosis and effective management can help to reduce the risk of future cardiorenal complications. In this session, Bev Bostock demystifies the diagnosis and management of diabetic kidney disease, giving you a step-by-step approach to ensuring people get the evidence-based care they deserve.
